Motorola to launch Android 2GHz SmartPhone in 2010

Yes you did read that correctly. According to various reports surfacing round the web, Motorola really are planning to launch a new SmartPhone with a 2GHz processor by the end of the year.

Now this sounds pretty strange doesn’t it, because from what I can gather, and correct me if I’m wrong, but the fastest SmartPhone today only has a 1.5GHz Snapdragon Processor?

So, if Motorola’s superfast phone does come to pass then it may well put all other SmartPhones in the shade so to speak, including Apple’s iPhone 4G.

Ok so if you’re wondering where the information is coming from, well, apparently it came straight from the horse’s mouth, albeit via the tech blog ConceivablyTech.

According to Wolfgang Gruener writing on ConceivablyTech, Sanjay Jha, CEO of Motorola’s consumer business and mobile devices division, confirmed at the Executives Club of Chicago that the company will continue to roll out Android phones at a fast pace, including a “2 GHz smartphone by the end of the year”.

That’s quite a major bit of news don’t you think and yet it isn’t yet being reported by the mainstream press, yet, the 2GHz phone that is.

Most are reporting on more or less how Jha said that SmartPhones will eventually bring about the demise of computers and some other pretty bland stuff but nothing about Motorola’s intended super phone.

Gruener on the other hand says that Jha didn’t say anything else about the 2GHz phone but then quotes an anonymous source from Motorola who said that “this new phone is intended to incorporate everything that is technologically possible in a SmartPhone today”.

Now that’s quite a bold statement. I mean “everything that is technologically possible”, makes you wonder what we’re going to get.

Anyway, he goes on to describe how the phone will be based on Android, and will include, like the newly released Apple iPhone 4G, a gyroscope, and it will also add an Nvidia Tegra based graphics processor with full Flash 10.1 hardware acceleration.

The unnamed Motorola source is also reported to have said that the phone would support 720p output, HD screen resolution and a camera that has more than 5 megapixels.

SmartPhones are suddenly getting exciting again.
